Literacy to the Ridge

For years now, teachers in Mariannridge have been frustrated with having to teach at least forty learners, some with learning challenges, and never being able to give enough attention to any one in particular. It has been identified that low levels of literacy are a major obstacle to learning. In response to this issue, Soul Action has developed a literacy programme that has been tested in a few schools and is about to be launched in the primary school in Mariannridge. The management and staff of the school welcomed it with open arms and we look forward to starting early next year.

This project is structured so that:

a) the children learn reading and spelling skills

b) the community/school takes ownership leaving no dependence on an outside organization.

c) employment is created.
